If you’re anything like me, you’re always looking to update, organize and decorate your residence. It’s a sickness and a true passion (which is is something I’ve been struggling with discovering, but that’s a different story for another day). I love looking through Pinterest during my free time, looking at different things I can do to my apartment and how I can improve the area I spend most of my time. From bathroom towels to bedding, and even plants.
If life allowed it, I could spend hours in the home or office department of any store. HomeGoods is a literal dream for me, just like Disneyland. Since I’ve lived in Sacramento my entire life, I have come to find some great shops that anyone obsessed with decor or apartment plants should check out.
R Cubed Lifestyle
3214 Riverside Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95818
I have been following R Cubed Lifestyle on social media for some time now, but have sadly not made it into the store until now. From the photos on their Instagram, I knew I was going to fall in LOVE. Sure enough, it happened from the moment I stepped inside the front door. I fell in love with what I saw, from the furniture to the clothing, and even the heavenly smell of a Capri Blue candle.
Since the shop is a lifestyle store selling a wide variety of products, everything you see is for sale. This includes the clothes, the accessories, the incredible furniture, and so much more. As I began perusing through the contents, I just wanted to buy each and every piece I saw. And even though I am writing about the decor aspect, I am also highly interested and easily distracted by cute clothes.
The rustic charm, the brick accents and the amount of house plants spread across the store were enough to catch my eye. Not only is this the style I dream of and crave, it is what I am slowly working towards within my own space. I had the pleasure of learning how the furniture is brought into the shop, each piece is hand picked from different markets around Sacramento, putting an incredible emphasis on keeping it local.
Definitely check them out now since they have rearranged the store for the Fall season. I captured these images a few days before and I’m so excited to see what they have done with the space.
The Plant Foundry
3500 Broadway, Sacramento, CA 95817
Now, the Plant Foundry is more of a local nursery than a place for general decor. But then again, who doesn’t want to decorate with plants? I mean, I didn’t until recently. I never used to be into gardening, but I have found a new appreciation for it. Sadly, I live in an apartment and have to fill this desire with indoor plants. And the Plant Foundry is one of my favorite places to look through the different kinds of plants I can decorate with – other than Bushnell Gardens.
While I was there, I got carried away and ended up leaving with a new ceramic pot, bag of soil and a mini fern. Which was perfect, I had just been thinking about getting a fern earlier that day. They have a wide assortment of incredible pots of all sizes and colors. There are detailed and smaller pots inside, in many different colors. I have two from them, a gradient of multiple greens and a white and blue flowered delicate one.
This kind of shop is the place I picture myself strolling through with my boyfriend when we’re older, Old Soul coffee in hand on a Saturday morning. Looking through their bright colored furniture, picking out some hanging indoor pots or picking through the many knick knacks they have. The Plant Foundry is an incredible funky place and I hope it stays that way, the world needs to stay funky.
Bushnell Gardens, Home & Gift
5255 Douglas Blvd, Granite Bay, CA 95746
Although not in the heart of Sacramento, another amazing nursery and home decor shop is Bushnell Gardens in Granite Bay. A quick 30 minute drive up highway 80 towards Reno, hop off the freeway at Douglas Blvd and pass Sierra College Blvd sits a cute shop with incredible decor and an abundance of different plants.
Inside, each piece is arranged in different areas around the store so the customer can visualize it in their own home. On top of a decor and organization obsession, I also love books. Whether that’s looking at them, reading them or just having them in my home. So, to see the amount of bookcases that were arranged with different jars and items for sale warmed my heart. If I had the space, I would bring home as many bookcases as possible. My own living room already has three.
Just walking around Bushnell Gardens, you can tell the owner has incredible taste, an eye for what looks good together and a real love for her work. As much as I loved the items available, I think my interest in this shop reaches further than creating a warm home. I feel as though it’s something I hope to do someday, open a small shop with my mom where we can just create day in and day out.
